Why you chose to join Psi Chi? I wanted to join something that was for people who were also interested in psychology and preparing for their careers. I joined my first year so I could have more guidance about preparing for grad school early on.
Advice for new members: Don’t stress about the requirements. They exist so you can get the most out of your Psi Chi Experience. Being active and making connections can introduce you to great research opportunities and classes!

Vice President: Caroline Fung
Year: 4th
Major: Psychology
Areas of Interest: Health and I/O Psychology
Why you chose to join Psi Chi: The previous President of Psi Chi was my PLF (peer learning facilitator) for Psych 100A and she got me involved with Psi Chi. It was nice to find a smaller community of people within the large major.
Advice for new members: Start looking for opportunities ASAP! Try out different things as well, it doesn’t have to be related to your major. Go out there and try new things because you won’t know what you’re interested in until you try it!

Why Psi Chi?: I wanted to learn more about the Psychology major here at UCLA and wanted to ensure that it was the right career path for me. I also wanted to become more involved and learn more about my options for graduate school.
Advice for new members: Don’t limit yourself to a single career path from the get go. Stay open minded, especially as you take upper division courses. You never know what you might become interested in.

Why Psi Chi? Wanted to utilize the services this club provides (community service, research opportunities, and information about such things as: graduate school applications, the GRE, and future careers in psychology) as well as wanted to contribute to the success and stability of our club.
Advice for new members: Get involved in extracurriculars and stay involved. Utilize the resources UCLA offers (such as the writing center, test bank, food closet, career center, etc). Go to a football or basketball game! Apply for job positions and research during your academic career as soon as possible. Always think about your future and research what steps it’ll take for you to get to the job you want. Quit procrastinating. And, lastly, don’t stress so much. Take moments to breath, reflect, and relax - your mental health is just as important as anything else.

Historian: Marjorie Llanera
Year: 2nd
Major: Pre-Psychology; minor in Asian American Studies
Areas of Interest:
I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in either Clinical or Health Psychology. I am interested in researching about racial and ethnic disparities in mental health. Currently, I am a research assistant in Dr. Tiffany Brannon’s Culture and Contact Lab. I enjoy dancing to Korean Pop music, and am a member of KBM Dance. During my spare time, I like exploring Los Angeles (food adventures!), attending concerts, and watching stand-up comedy on YouTube.
Why you chose to join Psi Chi:
I chose to join Psi Chi because I wanted to become more familiarized with the major, as well as learn about research and scholarships regarding this field. I am glad to be a part of a family that is passionate about psychology!
Advice for new members:
As a well-established institution, UCLA provides many opportunities for students. It feels overwhelming to try things out of our comfort zones, but do not feel afraid to dip your feet into new waters! Just do so with grit!

Everyone is very friendly in the club and we all have similar experiences as Psychology Department majors, so it is easy to get to know one another. Also, don’t worry about what you want to do with your life, it takes time sometimes to figure it out.
