1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: I learned more about psych related research opportunities at UCLA!
Piece of Advice for Bruins: Take as many classes that fit your interests as possible! College is one of the few chances where you will get the opportunity to explore freely before going into the real world.

Secretary: Jasmine Hannani
Year: 4th
Major: Psychology
Area of Interest: Occupational Therapy! I’m interested in both physical and mental health and OT is a very holistic field. I would love to help improve skills that are meaningful for every day life!
Favorite Class: Psychology 150. It was very interesting to me to see the relationship between the mind and the body and the effects of stress on both physical and mental well being.
1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: I learned about the different research projects that other members have done.
Piece of Advice for Bruins: Even though grades are really important, it’s also important to join clubs and other extra-curricular activities! Also, make an effort to go to office hours. Since most Psychology classes have a large number of students, it’s beneficial to establish a good relationship with your professors.

Treasurer: Jamie Cole
Year: 4th
Major: Psychology
Minor: Cognitive Science
Area of Interest: Clinical Psychology, Social Work, and Marriage and Family Therapy. I want to improve the quality of life for individuals as well as help people to overcome the daily struggles and challenges they’ve faced throughout life.
Favorite Class: Psych 133C - Language Development. Not only was I interested in the topic of how language develops throughout life but my professor, Ankowski, really engaged with the class and made learning about language acquisition, language learning, and communications skills so much more interesting!
1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: The types of research positions available to psychology undergraduates as well as the types of programs I can apply to with a B.A. in Psychology
Piece of Advice for Bruins: Devote at least one hour of your day to doing what makes you happy

Fundraising Chair: Majorie Llanera
Year: 3rd
Major: Psychology
Minor: Asian American Studies
Area of Interest: I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in either Clinical or Health Psychology. I am interested in researching about racial and ethnic disparities in mental health, particularly psychosocial factors that affect the emotional wellbeing of Asians and Asian Americans.
Favorite Class: Tough decision, but definitely between Asian American Studies 30W and Psychology 150! The material I learned from both classes are invaluable, but what made them stand out to me the most was the support system I gained from the professors, teaching assistants, and classmates respectively!
1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: I chose to join Psi Chi because I wanted to become more familiarized with the major, as well as learn about research and scholarships regarding this field. I am glad to be a part of a family that is passionate about psychology!
Piece of Advice for Bruins: Take a step back and remember that you are not navigating college alone: each day is its own battle, not the entire war.

Historian: Kwang-Pyeo (David) Yi
Year: 2nd-Year Transfer
Major: Psychology
Minor: Global Health
Area of Interest: Intimate Relationships, NGO Interventions
Favorite Class: Psych 188A (Early Adversity) w/ Dr. Goff
“The question that we should be asking is not 'whats wrong with that child’ but ‘what happened to that child’” -Oprah Winfrey
1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: Personal growth
“The most uncomfortable situations in life hold the greatest potential for growth” –Panache Desai
Piece of Advice for Bruins: You belong here. You are not an impostor: you are your own person. It’s hard to not compare yourself to those around you, especially when it seems like everyone is doing the impossible. But at the end of the day, you are writing your own story: a story that will be shared with the world.

Webmaster: Yihouy (June) Bo
Year: 2nd-Year Transfer (TRANSFER PRIDE!!)
Major: Psychology
Area of Interest: Clinical Psychology, Depression & Anxiety, Early Trauma
Favorite Class: Early Adversity by Dr. Goff, Intimate Relationships (especially the supplementary 189 seminar), Human Sexuality (this one blew my mind!)
1 thing you gained from Psi Chi: great opportunities to meet graduate school advisers & representatives from all over the nation, and learn about my post-grad options. I also get to write quirky emails and make fun websites like this one!
Piece of Advice for Bruins: Go out and explore! Take advantage of the diversity on campus and in the LA area, it's a great time to immerse yourself in all things unfamiliar! Life might be hard at times but surround yourself with happy things, tell yourself "it be like that sometimes", and wear your cap & gown with pride at the end of it all!
Peek into my Bucket List: Ride a horse & own 5 cats at some point so I can die happy. (:
